The Fashion Design & Sewing Designer Experience at House of Selah Academy takes students beyond learning individual sewing techniques and guides them through the experience of developing an original fashion concept, creating a wearable garment and presenting their work in a fashion-show environment.

Students progress through the creative process from concept to construction while developing practical skills in fashion design and sewing.

Training includes fashion sketching and design development, fabric and textile education, measurements and fitting, pattern literacy, sewing-machine operation, garment construction, troubleshooting, finishing techniques and designer development.

Students then experience the professional side of presenting their work through fittings, preparation, rehearsal and participation in a House of Selah fashion showcase.

This program is designed for the emerging creative who wants to experience the journey from an idea on paper to a finished garment—and ultimately see that creation presented as fashion.

The philosophy behind this course also fits the curriculum we established: students aren’t merely learning to operate a machine; they’re learning pattern literacy, construction, how to respond to mistakes, mastery, authorship and designer development.
